Quality of Life/Euthanasia

A peaceful, dignified farewell at home

Saying goodbye to a beloved animal is one of the hardest decisions we face. When quality of life has declined and comfort is no longer possible, a home euthanasia offers a gentle, familiar, deeply compassionate passing in the environment your pet knows best.

I provide holistic, house-call euthanasia in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs, supporting both your pet and your family with calm, clarity and respect.

Is It the Right Time? – Quality of Life Support

It is common to feel uncertain. Your mind may know something your heart is not ready to acknowledge. A structured tool can help bring clarity during an emotional time.

You may wish to use the Quality of Life Assessment Scale – a simple, objective guide used internationally in veterinary hospice care:

👉 Quality of Life Scale (PDF)
https://www.lapoflove.com/how-will-i-know-it-is-time/lap-of-love-quality-of-life-scale.pdf

Completing this daily or every few days helps identify patterns, decline, and whether your pet is struggling more than they are enjoying life.

If you are unsure, I can offer a Quality of Life Consult to assess your pet’s comfort, pain, mobility, emotional engagement and daily patterns.

Why Choose Home Euthanasia?

A peaceful passing at home allows your pet to:

  • Remain in their own bed, garden, or favourite sunny place

  • Avoid the stress of travel or the clinic environment

  • Be surrounded by family, familiar smells and gentle voices

  • Experience a calm transition in a place where they feel safe

Families often find the privacy and intimacy of home helps the grieving process and allows space for ceremony, reflection, or quiet time together.

What to Expect During a Home Euthanasia Visit

My process follows the highest standards of modern end-of-life care:

  1. A calm conversation about what to expect and space for your concerns and wishes.

  2. Choosing a spot where your pet is happiest — bed, couch, garden, or in your arms.

  3. A gentle sedation that allows your pet to fall into a deep, pain-free sleep.

  4. When they are fully unconscious, the final injection is given, allowing a peaceful passing within minutes.

  5. You may spend as much time as you need afterwards.

Every step is slow, unhurried, compassionate and respectful.
